Every part of my corner is meticulously pieced together for my personal enjoyment. And every year I add something new, whether a quote, a tourist item, or a new interest of mine. This year I added my paintings that I learned from local artists in my area. Although student achievement is the top priority, the beginning of the school year is my calm. And setting a classroom up to be intriguing is the freedom that I enjoy about my career.
My favorite time of the school year is the calm before the storm. My first few years I used to have my own classroom. But with population, district attendance lines, and my role as an Instructional Coach, this will be my second year sharing a classroom. I actually love sharing a classroom because it makes teaching not feel like an isolated position. I have learned to adapt from a full classroom to a shared classroom, but still maintaining the same classroom environment. Although there is minimal wall space, I enjoy the challenge of creating my own corner to reflect my personality and set a welcoming mood that inspires my students. The decorating part of my classroom infuses the classroom rules, school initiatives, and math standards. Once those are set in stone, I place my own inspirations, pieces that keep me moving forward, especially when I feel I can no longer teach.
