It is actually a site I am proud of because it accumulates all the work I did within the school year. As for the rest of summer, I finish my 24 days of summer school remedial math-which was a challenge within itself. But it a good class overall. At the end of it all, I know I can teach math, I can do individual-small group lessons, but I have a hard time making the students believe they can actually do it. The challenge of the class was that some students believed that doing the bare minimum was enough. That is the frustrating part. Teaching math doesn't combat the challenges of mannerisms. That's the life of a high school math teacher-but the class grounded me back to the challenges of teaching. We can constantly read about strategies, apply strategies, do routines, set rules, use positive reinforcement base on pass-on lessons, and yet we are dealing with emotions and attitudes that are not rooted in our training's. It doesn't matter who you are or what skills you may have, sometimes the issue isn't you, instead, you are in the way.
The next phase of summer is my short break in-fluxed with random working day's. I told myself I just wanted to go back into the classroom, and here I am doing different things! It is the nature of who I am, the natural curiosity to try something new. Weighing out the pros and cons, I am still meticulously deciding what I may need to know for later on in my career.
Other than work, I was babysitter (that was a first), continued with CrossFit, and traveled to Southern California with AVID on a 4 day-9 colleges and Disneyland trip. Went to Austin, TX for a grading and assessment conference. Went to Game 4 of NBA Finals (the Dubs lost the series and now NBA is on a wave of betrayal) Local cities tour in San Francisco and Monterey. And finally, I am on my way to Indonesia for my Fulbright international field experience. Am I nervous? Just a bit. Am I excited? Just a bit. I don't know how I feel, but all I know is that it is hot there, and that isn't something that resonates with me.
That is the update for the summer of 2019.
